JARhead

JAR. The Houdini of jewelry, recluse and elusive, Joel Arthur Rosenthal has made an indelible mark with his creative genius. His Parisian boutique off  Place Vendome has no windows, no store hours, no phone number. Just a door. "Everything conspires to make you bigger and more public," he says. "My instinct and my radar, my selfishness and arrogance and above all the passion for happiness told me to stay small, stay silent, do what you want to do, don't be seduced, don't be enticed, just get on with it the way you think it should be done."  And so it is with JAR.  His intricate craftsmanship mixed with a limited availability has thrown his pieces into high demand. His coffee table books sell for $3,500 - $5,000, his parfum upwards of $400 per ounce, and his exquisite art jewelry rakes in a cool 6 figures per piece. That is of course, if you can find it ;)
